NORTH SHORE

acrylic on paper, 14″ x 30″
2009

“North Shore” is a series of paintings on paper that reference northern landscapes, where rock, vegetation and water meet sky.

My approach to painting is strongly influenced by my initial background as a printmaker. Like state proofs in printmaking, this series includes black and white “under paintings”. This is a term that I use to describe the monochromatic paintings in this suite that reveal the visual framework of my landscapes.

“North Shore” explores the patterns and rhythms of the Ontario northland in a personal language of line and colour. The northern horizon is my subject matter but revealing my artistic process and the uninterrupted gesture of my hand are part of the final presentation.
